Pablo Picasso was a well-known Spanish artist. He is considered one of the most influential artists of the twentieth century. He is credited with inventing cubism. He was born on October 25, 1881 ad he died on April 8, 1973 at the age of ninety-one.

Blue Period

Picasso started his blue period from 1901-1904, which included mostly somber paintings in blue and blue-green. He also focuses on blindness a great deal during this time period, such as in the work, The Blindman's Meal.
Rose Period

Picasso's rose period went from 1904-1906. This period consisted of cheery pink, red and orange colors, and circus-oriented designs, which included acrobats and harlequins. Many of the paintings in this period were inspired by Fernande Olivier, a French model he was associated with.
African-Influenced Period

Picasso's African-influenced period was from 1907-1909 involved more geometric shapes which led directly to the cubism movement.
Cubism

With the help of arrist Georges Braque, Picasso helped to develop cubism, the work he is now famous for. Both artists took objects of their choice and took them apart, placing pieces of the object in unusual areas. Synthetic cubism, which came shortly after, involved cut-out pieces of paper in varying colors.
