What Good Are The Arts? is a 2005 book by John Carey.
Premise[]
The book argues that amongst other media, the role of painting has largely been superceded by newer forms of art, like Tracy Emin's "Bed". This Carey sees as a last stand by modern artists to salvage High Art from the cultural mass media of soap operas and video games.
